VOLOS AND MOUNT PELION (4 hrs)
Start the tour with a visit to the Archaeological museum. It houses numerous and various exhibits: Neolithic artifacts and modern archaeological excavations in Thessaly. Continue to Mount Pelion which forms a well - wooded and well - watered promontory protecting Volos Bay from the Aegean Sea. The sense of mystery engendered by the mountain’s impenetrable forests has given rise to many legends. Visit one of the most interesting mountain villages of Pelion, Makrinitsa 700m (2.296 ft). Stroll through the narrow streets among the splendid old stone houses.
METEORA MONASTERIES (8 hrs)
Start the drive (approximately 2 hrs) to the town of Kalambaka and visit Meteora. Colossal symmetrical gray and reddish boulders, as though pushed upwards from the bowels of mother earth by an invisible hand. We visit two beautiful Byzantine monasteries perched precariously high above the ground. They were first built in the 14th century by monks seeking isolation and salvation, once accessible only by ropes thrown from above. Return to Volos.
